Similarities and differences in traditional Eurasian and Peranakan foods

Description

Same same but different - catch a talk by cookbook author Lloyd Matthew Tan as he discusses the similarities and differences in traditional Eurasian and Peranakan delicacies.

This talk is presented together with the Eurasian Association for Armenian Street Party - Balik Kampong 2.0.

About the speaker

Matt Tan is the author of Daily Nonya Dishes (Laok Hari Hari: Heritage Recipes for Everyday Meals). He grew up watching his parents cooking dishes learned from his grandmother, Khoo Quee Neo, matriarch of the historic Bonny Grass mansion on River Valley Road. When Matt's father passed away in 2002, he realised it was not only important to learn how to cook the food he ate regularly at home, but also to record the family recipes for future generations.

We have a wide variety of food, from the usual nyonya cuisine and fusion hawker fare to old school cocktail drinks! Food items will cost about $3 and $10, and drinks (non-alcoholic and alcoholic options) about $2 to $12.

We have back to back performances on the main stage featuring stand-up comedian Deepak, an interactive Peranakan skit by True Blue, and local talents including The Pinholes, .gif, Joie, and Deborah Emmanuel.
